Cross Country Halfway Towards Fundraising Goal
Mean Green Has Raised $3,586 For Training Camp
Cross Country Training Camp
DENTON – The North Texas cross country team has raised well over half of their goal of $4,000 to help kick-start preparing for the upcoming season by training four days in the Arkansas mountains Aug. 17-21.
Update: total raised - $3,586 (July 13th)
“We are very excited to share the news of reaching more than half of our fundraising goal,” cross country coach Stefanie Slekis said. “We were grateful to receive a bunch of large donations from our alumni and some key supporters of our program to help us reach the halfway mark so quickly. With a month to go I am optimistic that we can receive some smaller donations from our alumni and supporters to meet our target mark of $4,000.”
The purpose of the training camp is to train on tougher hills with cooler temperatures conducive to better preparation for the cross country competition that will begin 12 days later.
This would give the team a chance to build together as a team and instill a strong winning team culture. The student-athletes are hoping to raise 4,000 to cover the costs for food, gas and accommodations at the Rocky Shoals Resort in Mt. Ada, Arkansas which is located by Ouachita National Forest where the team can train on miles of trails and dirt roads.
“The support for this team training trip means so much to our men’s and women’s cross country student-athletes, to myself, and the rest of our coaching staff,” added Slekis. “This will be an amazing opportunity for our student-athletes to train and build a strong winning team culture in August to kick off the 2016 season and make it our best season yet in Conference USA.”
