DENTON, Texas - The North Texas cross country team released its schedule for the 2014 season, a slate that features the SEC’s Arkansas Razorbacks, who will host the Chile Pepper Festival and the NCAA South Central Regional Championship.
"The team and I are excited about this cross-country season schedule,” said assistant coach Stefanie Slekis. “We're heading back to meets where we had success last year, like the Chile Pepper Festival at the University of Arkansas. It is also a great fit for us that we'll be heading back to that course in November for the NCAA South Central Regional Cross Country Championship.”
The Mean Green will travel to Houston for the Conference USA Championship hosted by the Rice Owls. North Texas is coming off of season-high finishes at the 2014 championships, with the men in second place and the women in third.
“I'm also looking forward to the team racing in Houston,” Slekis said. “Rice did a great job with the outdoor championship this spring, and our men and women will be prepared to compete for the team championships there in the fall.”
The men’s team will travel to Terre Haute, Indiana, for the Pre-National Invitational hosted by Indiana State University, also where the NCAA Cross Country Championship will take place, giving the men an opportunity to prepare for the championships. After placing the highest in program history at the NCAA South Central Regional Championship last fall.
“Our goal for this program is to qualify for the NCAA Cross Country Championship and competing at the Pre-National Invitational is an important step toward reaching that goal,” said Slekis.
