Mean Green Cross Country Teams Recognized For Academic Awards
Florian Lussy And Susannah Lynch Named USTFCCCA All-Academic
DENTON – The North Texas men’s and women’s cross-country teams were both recognized by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association for their academic success.
“One of our main team goals every year is to earn team USTFCCCA All-Academic honors,” cross country coach Stefanie Slekis said. “Every year the men’s and women’s teams set an additional goal above and beyond reaching the 3.0 GPA. I was really pleased with both of our teams this year that we had the highest fall semester GPA for both of our teams since I arrived at North Texas.”
The Mean Green men and women received USTFCCCA All-Academic team honors for posting cumulative grade-point averages above 3.0. The men’s team posted a GPA of 3.12, and the women followed at 3.65. It marks the fifth straight year to be awarded for both programs.
“As a coach I strongly believe that the hard work student-athletes put in the classroom is directly correlated to the work you put into your sport,” Slekis said. “It is exciting to see that as we continue to raise our academic bar as a team,”
Individually, freshman Florian Lussy and sophomore Susannah Lynch were named USTFCCCAA All-Academic honorees. Honorees must have compiled a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 and have finished in the top 15 finishers (or 10 percent) at regionals.
Lussy came in 15th place at the NCAA South Central Regional and was third-team All-Conference after placing 18th at C-USA Championships. Lynch finished 23rd at the NCAA South Central Regional and earned first-time All-Conference after coming in fourth at C-USA Championships.
“I am really proud that both our men’s and women’s team had an individual earn USTFCCCA All-Academic honors,” Slekis said. The individual award requires you to perform at an elite level at the NCAA Region Cross Country Championship. Both Susannah and Florian finished in the Top 25 individually at the NCAA South Central Region and had over a 3.25 cumulative GPA in order to receive this award.”
The Mean Green were among 242 women’s programs and 189 men’s programs that earned all-academic team honors.
In order to qualify for the honor, athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 and finish in the top-25 (or 10 percent) at regionals or as an All-American at the national meet.
