DENTON – The North Texas men’s and women’s cross-country teams were both recognized by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association for their academic success.
“It is an important tradition set between coach Sheffield and I to perform well in the classroom and on the field,” Cross Country coach Stefanie Slekis said. “It is a big accomplishment for our teams. I am really proud of this group and on the women’s side, it has been the best semester since I’ve been here.”
The Mean Green men and women received USTFCCCA All-Academic team honors for posting cumulative grade-point averages above 3.0. The men’s team posted a GPA of 3.04, and the women followed at 3.37. It marks the fourth straight year to be awarded for both programs.
Individually, senior Bryce McAndrew was named a USTFCCCAA All-Academic honoree. Honorees must have compiled a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 and have finished in the top 15 finishers (or 10 percent) at regionals.
McAndrew was named all-region after finishing 17th at the NCAA Division I South Central Regionals. He also placed 12th at the Conference USA Championships, helping his team to a third-place finish.
The Mean Green were among 205 women’s programs and 172 men’s programs that earned all-academic team honors. McAndrew was among 90 men in Division I who earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors.
