Women Place Third, Men Fourth At Sun Belt Championships

MONROE, Louisiana (10/31/09) - The Mean Green posted solid results at the Sun Belt Conference Championships with the women placing third and the men fourth.

Junior Patrick Strong was the top finisher from either team, placing fifth in the men's 8K run in a time of 27:23.63. Meanwhile, Ingrid Mollenkopf led the way on the women's side by finishing 12th with a 21:13.00 mark.

On the women's side the third place finish was a culmination of the team coming together at the right time at the end of the season. Behind Mollenkopf, Sara Dietz (16th-21:26.52), Sallie Anderson (17th-21:33.80) and Amanda Kean (18th-21:42.17) had top-20 performances.

Amy Alcala (35th-22:38.95), Sarah Workman (44th-22:56.84), Jessica Torres (56th-23:35.57) and Haley Cowan (60th-23:54.35) rounded out the finishers for the women's team.

In total the women's team accumulated 98 points, behind only second place Middle Tennessee (65) and Western Kentucky University (53).

Meanwhile the men's team (158 points) finished behind third place UALR (86 points), second place South Alabama (43 points) and Middle Tennessee (36 points).

Finishing behind Strong was Garrett Sage (24th-28:54.28), Josue Nunez (32nd-29:27.58), Brandon Cooper (46th-30:09.84), Matthew Peters (54th-30:26.93), Nick Mahoy (70th-31:58.02) and Michael Ortiz (80th-34:10.03).
