TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - Facing it's toughest competition so far this season, the Mean Green men's cross-country finished 27th at the Pre-National cross-country meet Oct. 18.
This was the Mean Green's first time at Pre-Nationals.

North Texas men's cross country brought seven elite runners to Terre Haute, Indiana to compete in the men's 8K Blue Race at the Pre-National meet.

The men's team was lead by junior Troy Taylor, who placed 44th with a time of 24:58.8.

"Even though we didn't place where we feel we are capable of, based on our fitness level I was really pleased with Troy's race and the team had a valuable learning experience of what it is like to race against such deep competition," said North Texas head cross country coach Stefanie Slekis. "This experience will greatly benefit our program as we move towards our goal of being a program that qualifies for the NCAA Championships."

North Texas placed 27th with 703 points. Colorado finished first with 35 points, Oregon came in second with 91 points, and Georgetown placed third with 148 points.

"I am confident that this group is still ready to compete for the win at the Conference USA Championship in two weeks, as well as a Top 5 Team finish at the NCAA South Central Regional in 4 weeks," said Slekis. "This group has trained really well the past 8 weeks and they will be ready for the Championship portion of the season in November."
