FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (10/13/12) - North Texas men's cross country topped all conference competitors at the Chile Pepper Cross Country Festival on the campus of the University of Arkansas Saturday morning.
Freshman Troy Taylor crossed the line first for North Texas, finishing 45th with a time of 32:03.9, as the men took 14th overall with a total team score of 353. Sun Belt Conference foes UALR, Georgia State, Louisiana-Lafayette and Arkansas State finished behind North Texas as well as LSU, TCU and Arkansas.
Silvester Harrison III followed Taylor, finishing 58th with a time of 32:19.4. Matt Russ (32:42.9) finished 86th, Alex Hita (32:55.9) finished 99th, Joel Flores (33: 50.1) finished 161st, Kevin Webb (34:19.3) finished 193rd and Austin Yaeger (35:07.4) finished 245th.
Jo Adams led the way on the women's side, completing the 6K race in 22:03.5 crossing the line at 30th. Laura Cortez (24:08.3) finished 171st followed by Kaitlyn Newton (24:27.1) at 187th, Yvette Hernandez (24:27.9) at 189th, Kylee Kittrell (24:46.9) at 216th, Isabel Acosta (25:03.8) at 230th and Melissa Brito (26:01.8) at 279th.
The women finished 25th besting conference rivals UALR and Louisiana-Lafayette as well as Baylor and Houston.
North Texas travels to Bowling Green, Ky. for the Sun Belt Conference meet on October 27.
