Cross Country Claims Two Individual Titles At Ken Garland
Women Placed Second, Men Finished Second
DENTON - The North Texas cross country teams came away with two individual titles to highlight the 2017 Ken Garland Invitational on Saturday at Discovery Park.
Junior Susannah Lynch earned her second Ken Garland Invitational title after earning first place last season. Senior Mike Lowe saved his best home meet for last with his first race victory.
"It was a new course this year so it was definitely more challenging," cross country coach Kevin Williams said. "We had some really good performances individually especially our New Zealand connection. It was nice to run against two quality regional teams in Baylor and Oklahoma."
The men's team started the meet strong with Lowe finishing first with a time of 20:10.3. Freshman Jack Beaumont finished fourth with a time of 20:38.7 and sophomore Florian Lussy came in sixth at 20:47.3 in his season debut. Senior Rick Nally was eight with a time of 20:48.6 and sophomore Alex Cleveland finished 12th at 21:09.7. Baylor just edged out North Texas for the team victory 26-to-31.
The women's team also finished second to Baylor in a one-point meet at 38-to-39. Lynch gave the Mean Green a clean sweep for individual titles with a time of 18.15.7. Junior newcomer Rea Iseli earned a third-place finish with a time of 18:35.9. Junior Kellee McCann earned her best Ken Garland invite finish in fifth place at 18:43.4. Senior Christina Moralez made her season debut in 12th place with a time of 19:44.9. Junior Baylee Nelson completed the scoring with a 19th place finish at 20:19.9.

The Mean Green will head to College Station to take part in the Texas A&M Invitational on Sept. 23.
