DENTON, Texas - (09/15/2012) Mean Green cross-country hosted the Ken Garland Invitational Saturday morning at the North Texas Cross Country Course behind the Waranch Tennis Complex.
Freshman Silvester Harrison III took first in the men's four-mile run with a time of 20:25. Fellow freshman Bryce McAndrew trailed Harrison by 26 seconds to take third place.
Freshman Kevin Webb (21:59.57) finished seventh followed by Brad Fullman (22:18.0) at 14th, Chris Corbett (22:26.5) at 15th, Morgan Oats (22:30) at 16th, Kevin Haverstick (23.17) at 17th and Michael Ortiz (24:01) at 19th. The men's side finished second in the team standings with 38 points.
Jo Adams kicked off her career at North Texas with a fourth-place finish in the women's 5k. Adams crossed the line in a time of 17:37.31.
"She is still adjusting to running cross-country in the US," cross-country coach Sam Burroughs said. "I believe by the end of the season she will be top 10 in our conference."
Freshman Kaitlyn Newton (19:29.09) led the rest of the women finishing at 15th trailed by Laura Cortez (19:46.12) at 20th, Kylee Kittrell (19:52.28) at 21st, Isabel Acosta (20:15.03) at 22nd, Melissa Brito (20:22.45) at 23rd and Catie Hooper (20:50.36) at 26th.
Adams led the women's team to a third finish with 78 points behind SMU (25 points) and TCU (39 points).
The Mean Green will return to action Saturday, Sept. 29, when both teams travel to the Cowboy Jamboree in Stillwater, Okla.
