Annual Pentathlon Preps Track Team For Spring Competitions
Coach Sheffield's Annual Event Gives Real-Time Look At His Squad's Strengths
Denton - The North Texas track and field team competed in their annual team pentathlon earlier this month in order to prepare for the 2015 season.
The Mean Green was divided up into teams and competed against each with five different events. The combination of the events was intended to reveal each team's quickness, strength and force.
North Texas head coach Carl Sheffield believes this annual event pushes the team as a whole and individually to determine their strengths and weaknesses. Each year, Sheffield compares the scores and times to the previous season to get a better look at where the team stands.
This year's pentathlon includes the 30-meter dash, standing long jump, standing triple jump, overhead backwards throw, and between-the-leg forwards with the medicine ball.
The Mean Green has its first competition on January 16th at the Texas A&M Challenge in College Station, Texas.
