Abbey Joins Track & Field Coaching Staff
North Texas Director of Track & Field Carl Sheffield announced the addition on Pete Abbey to his staff for the 2011-12 seasons as the Mean Green's throws coach.
DENTON, Texas - North Texas Director of Track & Field Carl Sheffield announced the addition on Pete Abbey to his staff for the 2011-12 seasons as the Mean Green's throws coach.
Abbey, who previously served as an assistant coach at North Texas, brings a wealth of knowledge from many different levels of coaching, making previous stops at LSU, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State.
"Pete will begin the process of building the throwing event areas here at North Texas to outstanding heights," said Sheffield. "His background and ability to develop athletic potential will be a tremendous boost in our conference as well as the national stage"
While at LSU, Abbey was a member of three women's track & field national championship teams.
A fifteen year veteran of coaching, Abbey earned his bachelor's degree from Eastern Illinois University in elementary education.
He has served as the meet director for the Big 8 cross country championships and has been the assistant meet director for the NCAA Championships, USATF Junior Olympics and four SEC meets.
Mean Green track & field will kick-off their indoor season at the Texas A&M Invitational on Jan. 14, 2011 in College Station, Texas.
