DENTON, Texas (7/4/09) – The North Texas women’s track and field team continued their academic success by being named one of 131 Division I programs to be named to the 2009 Division I All-Academic Track and Field Teams.
To be nominated, the team must carry a minimum 3.000 cumulative grade-point average. North Texas compiled a GPA of 3.012 in 2009.
“The girls have done a great job of taking care of their academics,” North Texas track and field head coach Rick Watkins said. “They’ve been consistently around 3.0 the last couple years. I’m proud of the work they do not only on the track but also in the classroom.”
Troy was the only other school in the Sun Belt to be named to the list. The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga was the top academic school with a GPA of 3.550. The Big East led the way with 10 schools being named All-Academic Team.
This award comes on the heels of four members (Christal Brewster, Shayla Hart, Brittani Simmons and Alana Tyler) of the women’s track team being selected to the women’s 2009 Division I All-Academic Track and Field Team.
