North Texas Athletic Hall Of Famer Max Goldsmith Passes Away

DENTON – North Texas Athletic Hall of Famer and one of the most decorated track coaches in the state of Texas Max Goldsmith passed away on Friday at the age of 91. Goldsmith was elected to the North Texas Athletic Hall of Fame in 1991 and was a member of the committee for years following his election.
He helped lead North Texas track teams to Lone Star Conference championships in 1941 and 1946. Following his career at North Texas, Goldsmith enjoyed a long and successful career as a high school track coach who was a three-time Coach of the Year in Texas and elected to the Texas High School Coaches Hall of Honor.
He was the Lewisville ISD Athletic Director from 1966-83 and the school district’s stadium bears his name. Two track meets in the state of Texas also bear the name of Max Goldsmith. He was elected to the Texas High School Coaches Association Hall of Fame in 1974.
