Track Stars Receive Academic Honor
North Texas track & field put four members of the 2012 squad on the US Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic Track and Field team the group announced Wednesday.
DENTON, Texas (07/26/12) - North Texas track & field put four members of the 2012 squad on the US Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic Track and Field team the group announced Wednesday.
Sophomore Shahaf Bareni, senior Sara Dietz and freshman Chastity Stewart were the honorees for the women, while sophomore Clinton Collins represented the men's side.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either of the following athletic standards: for the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org; for the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
Bareni won first-place in the high jump at the SBC Outdoor Championships with a jump of 1.81 meters to compete in the NCAA West Preliminary Round. Dietz qualified for the preliminary round women's 1500-meter run with a first-place finish at the SBC Outdoor Championships. Stewart ran a season-best 13.76 to qualify.
Collins placed second in the 400-meter run with a time of 46.49 at the SBC Outdoor Championships in order to compete at the preliminary rounds.
