Williams Set For Pan American Championships

DENTON, Texas - Freshman long jumper Terrance Williams will compete for Team USA at the Pan American Junior Athletics Championships, which take place in Miramar, Fla., July 22-24.

Williams qualified for the event by finishing second at last month's USA Junior Championships in Eugene, Ore., with a jump of 7.52 meters, just .01 meters out of first place.

The freshman becomes the first Mean Green long jumper to qualify for the event and joins teammate Steven White as the only athletes on the current North Texas roster to compete for the Team USA Junior Team.

White made the 2010 team when he took second in the 400-meter hurdles in 2010 and went on to run in the IAAF World Junior Championships in Canada.

North Texas has now been represented in the last two Pan American Championships, as former sprinter Keyth Talley won silver in the 200 meter dash and gold as a member of the 4x100 meter relay in 2009.

The long jump competition will begin Friday, July 22 at 6:10 p.m. CT.
