DENTON, Tex. (7/16/07) The North Texas men’s track and field team has made two more additions to its incoming freshman class with the signings of Darnell Greig and Russell Sams. Greig and Sams, both sprinters, give the Mean Green a total of 11 men’s signees for the upcoming season.
"We are very excited about Darnell and Russell," said North Texas head coach Rick Watkins. "They both have great credentials and are going to be able to come in and compete right away for us".
Greig, from Trinidad, finished third in the Trinidad and Tabago Junior (under 20) championship in the 400 meters with a time of 47.16. He qualified for the 2007 Pan Am Junior Championship held in Brazil this summer.
Sams is a three-time District 15-5A champion in the 200 meters, 4x200 meter relay, and 4x400 relay. He was a runner-up in all three events as a freshman. Sams was a Class 5A finalist in the 2006 and 2007, clocking a best time of 21.37.
