White Heads to NCAA Outdoor T&F Championship

DENTON, Texas - Mean Green track & field junior Steven White is set for the start of the 2012 NCAA Outdoor Championships Wednesday at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa.

White, who will be running the 400-meter hurdles, is the first men's qualifier to the NCAA Outdoor Championship since Jordan Wehr finished 15th in the pole vault in 2009.

The junior entered last week's NCAA West Preliminary Rounds in Austin with the sixth fastest time in the region at 50.07 seconds, but qualified for the national semifinal with the 11th fastest time at 50.64.

That season best of 50.07 seconds still ranks White at No. 7 in the NCAA overall and will either need to finish in the top-two of his heat, or be one of the next two fastest times that is not automatically qualified to advance to the national championship race on Friday.

White will run in lane two of the first heat of the 400-meter hurdles at 8:15 p.m. Wednesday evening. Live results can be found via www.flashresults.com.
