North Texas Sends Three More Athletes To NCAA Quarterfinals
AUSTIN, Texas - Three members of the Mean Green Track & Field team qualified for the NCAA Quarterfinals in their respective events Friday afternoon at Mike A. Myers Stadium on the University of North Texas.
Alysha Adams kicked off the afternoon for North Texas, automatically qualifying for the 100-meter hurdles tomorrow by finishing second in her heat in 13.35 seconds, the eighth fastest qualifying time.
In the 100-meter dash quarterfinal for the women, Brittany Blaylock (11.62) and Missy Barnes (11.90) fell just short of a trip to Eugene, Ore., for the national championships as they failed to qualify.
Sophomore Keyth Talley (21.21) was the second member of the Mean Green to advance to the NCAA Quarterfinals on Friday when he finished fourth in his heat in the 200-meter dash and was among the top six fastest non-automatic qualifying times.
In the women's 200-meter dash, Blaylock (23.84) took third in her heat and will advance to her second quarterfinal of the weekend.
Men's high jumper Jermaine Jamison cleared 2.11 meters and fell just short of a jump off for 12th place and a trip to the NCAA Championships.
Ashley Austin finished the night for the North Texas in the long jump. The senior just missed the finals with a jump of 5.83 meters.
Action kicks off for the Mean Green at 6 p.m. on Saturday evening with the women's 4 x 100 relay with the men's 4 x 400 relay closing out the 2010 NCAA Preliminary rounds.
