Bey and Bareni Named to All-Academic Team
North Texas Places Two on C-USA's All-Academic Team
DENTON - Two North Texas track and field athletes were named to the 2015 Conference USA All-Academic Team. Senior high jumper Shahaf Bareni and junior sprinter Connor Bey were among the 22 male and female athletes named to the team.
Bareni, a native of Geot Nolan, Israel, is majoring in kinesiology and holds a 3.703 grade-point average. In addition to her academic success, Bareni has excelled as a high jumper. Bareni placed first in the 2015 C-USA Indoor Championships high jump with a 1.79m jump.
In the 2015 outdoor season, Bareni placed first at the John Jacobs Invite (1.80m). She holds the women's high jump record at North Texas.
Connor Bey is a computer science major from Celina, Texas. With a GPA of 3.96, this is Bey's second consecutive year to be named to the track and field all-academic team. Bey was a part of the winning 4X400 meter relay team at the 2015 Bobcat Classic (3:12.98). At the 2015 C-USA Indoor Championships, he placed 14th in the 400-meter dash with a time of 49.32. He also placed 20th in the 200-meter dash (22.20).
Bareni and Bey are both competing at the NCAA West Preliminaries this week in Austin, Texas.
