Two Advance On Day One Of NCAA Preliminary Round
AUSTIN, Texas - Brittany Blaylock and Missy Barnes advanced to the NCAA Quarterfinals in the women's 100-meter dash Thursday afternoon at the NCAA Preliminaries Round held at Mike A. Myers stadium.
Blaylock, the Sun Belt Conference champion in the 100-meter, finished fourth in her heat in 11.85 seconds while Barnes was edged out at the last second for third and also finished fourth with the time of 11.85 seconds.
By advancing, the duo will now run Friday evening at 6:15 p.m.and will have to be among either the top three of their heat or have one of the three fastest times outside of that.
Sophomore Keyth Talley was barely eliminated from the men's 100-meter dash when he recorded a 10.60. His time was .01 seconds from the 24th and final spot to advance to the quarterfinal.
Talley will compete next in the 200-meter dash tomorrow night at 7:30 p.m., and will also run a leg of the 4x400 meter relay.
Roshunda Pierson and Steven White were also eliminated on Thursday afternoon from the 400-meter hurdles.
Pierson finished 32nd with a time of 1:01.15 while White took 42nd in 53.72 seconds.
The Mean Green will continue the NCAA West Preliminary Rounds from Mike A. Myers Stadium tomorrow afternoon with Alysha Adams running the 100-meter hurdles at 5 p.m.
