Bareni, White Advance To NCAA Championships

AUSTIN, Texas (5/24/13) – Shahaf Bareni and Steven White punched their tickets to the NCAA Champions after a long day of competition at the 2013 NCAA West Preliminary Round on Friday.

Bareni, who currently holds the school record in the high jump, grabbed a sixth-place finish in the event to advance to Eugene, Ore., with a leap of 5-08.75 feet. Haley Thompson came in at 40th with a leap of 5-05.00 feet.

White crossed the line in 50.22 to finish second in his heat and fifth overall. White automatically advanced to the NCAA Championships.

Chastity Stewart qualified for the quarterfinal heats in the women’s 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.94. Stewart, who finished 19th overall, will attempt to advance to the NCAA Championships tomorrow evening at 7:05.

Clint Collins wrapped up his junior season as the 17th best of the west region in the men’s 400-meter dash. Collins finishes the 2013 season two Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week honors.

Charlotte Wilson finished the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase in 10:49.26 crossing the line 40th. Wilson completes her first year at North Texas as the SBC Outdoor Most Outstanding Freshman as well as the lone freshman to qualify for an individual event at the prelims for the Mean Green.

The final day of competition at the 2013 NCAA West Preliminary Round kicks off at 6 p.m. with the women’s 4x100 meter relay. Fans can watch the meet via CBS Sports or follow the live results.
