Eight Track Athletes Qualify For NCAA Preliminaries

INDIANAPOLIS – Eight North Texas track & field athletes have qualified for the NCAA West preliminaries held at the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas May 26-28.
The women’s team has qualified senior Chastity Stewart in the 100-meter hurdles (13.03), 400-meter hurdles (58.13) and is part of the 4x100-meter relay team (44.91). Stewart will head to the NCAA West prelims for the fourth time in her career and is seeded eighth in the 100m hurdles. She is seeded 17th in the 400m hurdles and 18th in the 4x100m relay.
Senior Mona Landry qualified for the third time in her career in the long jump seeded 44th with a mark of 5.98 meters. Junior Jazmine Martin will compete in the triple jump for the second time seeded 23rd with a mark of 12.77 meters.
Lastly, the North Texas 4x100-meter relay team of Stewart, Landry, senior Nadiyah El-Amin and Siara Obasuyi are seeded 18th among 24 schools. El-Amin and Obasuyi are competing at the NCAA West prelims for the first time.
On the men’s side, junior Collin Heard qualified in the 200-meter dash and will be seeded 36th with a time of 21.05. Heard will be competing for the third time in his career after qualifying for the last two NCAA West prelims in 2014 and 2015.
Senior Bryce McAndrew has qualified for the first time in his career in the 1500-meter run and will be seeded 18th with a time of 3:43.41, which he ran at the Texas Relays earlier this season. Classmate Eddie Wilcox has also qualified for the first time in the high jump with a mark of 2.17 meters. Wilcox has earned four first-place finishes during the outdoor season.
The student-athletes will be hoping to qualify out of the west region to compete in the NCAA men’s and women’s outdoor track and field championships held June 8-11 in Eugene, Oregon.
