DENTON – The North Texas track and field teams have qualified eight student-athletes to compete at the 2018 NCAA Division I West Preliminary hosted by Sacramento State on May 24-26.

The men’s team had five student-athletes qualify in junior James Cole (200-meters, 4x100), senior Alford Tribble (4x100), senior Dominique Drayden (4x100), freshman Abdon Campbell (4x100) and junior Javier Lopez-Ibarra (javelin).

Cole, Drayden, Tribble and Campbell ran a time of 40.24 in the 4x100-meter relay last week at the Conference USA Championships to earn the final spot at the NCAA West Prelims.

On the women’s side, sophomore Bailey Ashmore (pole vault), sophomore Breanna Eckels (long jump) and sophomore Kristyn Archuleta (javelin).

The preliminary competitions will compete for the chance to earn a trip to the NCAA men’s and women’s outdoor track and field championships held June 6-9 in Eugene, Oregon. Only the top-12 finalists will make the NCAA finals.
