Men's Track Sits Third After Day One

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. - Mean Green track & field wrapped up day one of the Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Championships from the Dean Hayes Track & Soccer Complex on the campus of Middle Tennessee State University on Friday night.
The first event to be scored on the men's side saw freshman Charleston Lewis capture a fourth place finish with a personal best discus throw of 50.59 meters or 166 feet.
The women's pole vault also had a freshman registering points for North Texas. Sarah Vann took sixth place in the event after clearing a 3.41 meters.
After a lengthy rain delay, the Mean Green finished the night off with the 10,000 meter run.
Ingrid Mollenkopf crossed the line in second place, netting the women's team eight point with her time of 36:51.77.
Those eight points give the women's team 11 for the day and puts them in fifth place.
Senior Patrick Strong capped of the men's night with a third place finish in 30:55.77.
The Mean Green men currently sit tied for third place with Western Kentucky with 11 points. The two favorites to win the title trail South Alabama by five points.
North Texas will continue the SBC Outdoor Championships Saturday with the conclusion of the heptathlon, field event finals and the running preliminaries.
