DENTON, Texas - Mean Green track & field kicks off the 2012 Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Championships on Friday on the campus of Louisiana-Lafayette in Lafayette, La.
The Mean Green women were picked to take home first by the Sun Belt coaches after narrowly missing out on their first title since 2005 at the SBC Indoor Championships.
Senior Sara Dietz leads the way for NT as the SBC leader in both the 800 and 1,500-meter runs. Dietz received the conference's most outstanding track athlete at her last conference championship, taking home three first place medals.
The men's side is led by Steven White, who won four straight Sun Belt Conference Men's Track Athlete of the Week Awards in the regular season for his performances in the 400-meter hurdles and 200-meter dash.
White currently sits at No. 4 in the nation in the 400-meter hurdles and has posted two different Olympic Trials "B" cuts this season. The junior also sits third on the SBC Performance List in the 200-meter dash.
The conference championship will begin on Friday at 1 p.m. and run through Sunday night.
