- Junior Alysha Adams was named the Sun Belt Conference Women's Outstanding Track Performer for her performance during the Sun Belt Championships Finals on Sunday at Fouts Field.
Adams notched 24 points during her final races, making her the women's top individual meet scorer not only for the Mean Green, but also the conference.
Adams began the day running a school record time in the 100-meter hurdles when she flew down the track to a first place finish in 13.29 seconds.
From there, Adams would go on to run in the 100-meter in 11.91 seconds where she would finish in fifth behind teammates Brittany Blaylock, who crossed the line first in 11.64 seconds, and Missy Barnes who finished fourth in 11.82 seconds.
The junior then won her second race of the day in the 200-meter dash when she crossed the line just .01 in front of Blaylock in 23.82. Barnes would also finish sixth in the race at 24.42 seconds.
Ciara Smith also grabbed a gold medal by finishing first in the 400-meter dash. After qualifying with the second best time, Smith ran past the rest of the field and crossed the line in 55.46.
On the men's side Steven White showed his speed in the 400-meter hurdles when he topped defending Sun Belt Champ Roscoe Payne towards the end, finishing in 51.51 seconds.
The men's 4x400 relay of Steven White, Keyth Talley, Reggie Hayter and Montrell Pyron was able to recover from a dropped baton towards the end of the race for a second place finish.
Western Kentucky swept both the woman's and men's team championships, with the Mean Green finishing third in the woman's with 120 points and sixth in the men's race with 85 points.
North Texas will wait to see which athletes will advance to the NCAA West Preliminaries in Austin, Texas, May 27-29.
