Track Primed For Strong Showing At Sun Belt Championships

DENTON, Texas (5/07/09) The North Texas track and field teams will begin the 2009 Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Championships tomorrow morning at the Middle Tennessee Dean A. Hayes Track and Soccer Stadium.

Both the men and women have been selected to finish third in the Sun Belt coaches poll. Last year the women placed second while the men came in fourth at the Sun Belt Championships in Denton. Middle Tennessee was picked to finish first on the men’s side while Western Kentucky is the favorite on the women’s side.

North Texas enters this weekend riding a wave of momentum after a very successful regular season finale at the Mean Green Twilight. The Mean Green set 13 NCAA Regional qualifying marks, had 12 first place finishes and 32 placed in the top three.

Freshman sprinter Keyth Talley, who was just named Sun Belt Conference Performer of the Week, capped off an amazing regular season run with his best performances of his career. Talley won both the 100m (10.35) and 200m (20.74), both of which were season best times.

Seniors Brock Stickler and Lauren Wiggins were also named SBC Performers of the Week after both broke their own records in the discus and 100m hurdles respectively.
