DENTON, Texas (4/24/09) With just two weeks before the Sun Belt Conference Championships, the North Texas track and field team will make one last road trip this weekend to participate in the Sooner Invitational on Saturday, April 25.
North Texas will go up against some of the top teams in the nation, including Oklahoma, Oklahoma State and Texas Tech as well as Midwest regional teams Minnesota, SMU, Texas State and Tulsa.
Last week the Mean Green placed 14 athletes in the top three and won three individual awards. Sophomore high jumper Jermaine Jamison won his third consecutive competition and re-tied the school record of 7-00.50. Sprinters Ciara Smith and Lauren Wiggins also were winners in the 200-meter dash and 100-meter hurdles respectively.
The Mean Green currently hold 15 of the top three times/marks in the Sun Belt Conference as they continue to tinker and set themselves up for marking a run at the championship just a few weeks away.
Saturday’s action will get underway from John Jacobs Field at 11 a.m., beginning with the women’s javelin and pole vault. You can keep up with all the action by clicking here for live stats.
