Track & Field Ventures To John Jacobs Invitational
Mean Green Will Have 53 Athletes Competing

DENTON – The North Texas track and field team will participate in the 47th annual John Jacobs Invitational Saturday, April 23 starting at 10 a.m. at the John Jacobs complex.
The Mean Green will be facing a bunch of talented teams in Oklahoma, Abilene Christian, Arkansas Pine Bluff, Butler Community College, Central Oklahoma (women only), Nebraska Omaha, Oral Roberts, South Plains, Southern Nazarene (men only), Tulsa, UT Arlington and Wichita State.
Senior Kedron Sowells, freshman Justin Joe and junior Adam Hasan will compete in the men’s 100 meter dash. In the women’s 100m dash, senior Mona Landry, classmate Nadiyah El-Amin, sophomore Siara Obasuyi, freshman Bri Williams, sophomore Katyiah Carter and sophomore Jacie Wilson will hope for fast times.
Junior Collin Heard will run in the first heat in the men’s 200 meter dash and Sowells will compete in the second heat with senior Connor Bey. On the women’s side, El-Amin and senior Chastity Stewart will be looking for top finishes.
The distance runners coming off a successful meet in California will be competing in several events. Sophomore Victoria Junious, freshman Baylee Nelson, junior Kylee Kittrell and sophomore Brittany White will run in the 800 meters.
Stewart will look for more first place finishes in the 100-meter hurdles and sophomore Chelsea Crayton has posted a bunch of solid times in the 100m hurdles as well.
Senior Eddie Wilcox returns after a week of rest hoping to earn his fourth outdoor title in the men’s high jump. Landry is hoping to back-to-back titles in the women’s long jump after last week’s first place finish.
Junior triple jumpers Dominique Drayden and Jazmine Martin will be looking for personal bests against elite competition.
The Mean Green throwers have quietly had a breakout season as senior Tori Clark (shot put, hammer throw) and Ngozi Nweke (discus, hammer throw) have broken a school record and earned PRs this season.
Freshman Javier Lopez-Ibarra has three top 10 finishes this outdoor season and earned a first place finish at the Baylor Inviational. Senior Riley Donovan and sophomore Kevone Kennedy will both compete in the men’s hammer throw and discus.
