TCU Invite - Performance List
FORT WORTH, Texas (4/18/08) For the second time in less than a month, the University of North Texas track and field team will travel to Fort Worth to compete in the TCU Invitational this weekend.
North Texas is coming off arguably one of its best weekends during the outdoor season. The Mean Green tallied ten first place finishes and 16 season-best marks last Friday at the North Texas Classic.
“Typically, this is the time of year that we really begin to run some of our best times of the season,” said head coach Rick Watkins. “We just need to keep building on what we’ve been doing up to this point.”
The Mean Green currently holds the best mark in the Sun Belt in four separate events. Jermaine Jamison is the lone Sun Belt high jumper to post a regional mark this season. Jamison, a freshman from Killeen, Texas, cleared a height of 6-10.75 the last time he was at the Lowden Track Complex; 18th best in the country so far this season.
The men’s 4X100 and women’s 4X400 relay teams will also look to improve on its season best times. The 4X400 relay quartet of Chi Chi Echebelem, Shayla Hart, Chrystal Mitchell and Ciara Smith posted a regional qualifying mark and broke the school record two weeks ago at the Texas Relays with a time of 3:39.35. Echebelem, Smith and Hart were also part of the record-breaking relay team that qualified for the last year’s regionals.
The discus will kick off the invitational, Friday at 4:30 p.m. The rest of the TCU Invite will be held Saturday, beginning with the 4X100 meter relay at noon. TCU, Texas Tech, Tarleton State, Central Arkansas and Oklahoma State will all be competing against the Mean Green.
