WACO (4/17/04)- North Texas sophomore Deidra Wesley notched a NCAA Regional Qualifying mark in the high jump by clearing 5-8 at the Michael Johnson Invitational. The jump is a season best for Wesley and ties teammate Ryan Hill for the best mark in the Sun Belt Conference this season. Wesley has now qualified for the NCAA Regional in the high jump in consecutive years.
Other top performers include junior Jarrod Stone who improved his season best mark in the long jump to 24-7. Stone's mark is also a career-best in the long jump and he has already qualified for the NCAA Regional.
Heath Smith had his top performance of the season in the shot put at 47-1.50 and sprinter David Turner notched a season-best time in the 400-meter dash at 47.75.
In the 800-meter dash North Texas had two third place finishes on the men and women's side. Justin Kauffman had a season best time of 1:56.38 and Erika Washington finished in third in the 800-meter run and notched a season-best time at 2:16.72.
North Texas returns to action on Thursday April 22 when they host the North Texas Twilight at Fouts Field.
