DENTON - The North Texas track and field team will send half its student-athletes to California from April 13-15 and the rest of the squad to Austin for the Texas Invitational on Saturday, April 15.

On Thursday, April 13, senior James Coleman and junior Mike Lowe will race in the 10000-meter run at the Mt. SAC relays starting at 6:40 p.m. Lowe finished with a time of 30:33.63 last season, earning the third best time in school history.

Sophomore Alex Cleveland will compete in the 5000-meter run on Thursday at 6:40 p.m. Senior Kylee Kittrell and sophomore Cassidy McAdams will take part in the 5000m run at 7 p.m. Sophomores Christina Moralez and Kellee McCann will run in the 5000m run at 8:20 p.m. In the final race of the day, sophomore Susannah Lynch looks to break the school record in the 5000m run at 9:40 p.m.

"Traveling to Mt. SAC and Bryan Clay is the perfect opportunity for our distance student-athletes to chase top marks in the 5000 meters and 10000m," distance coach Stefanie Slekis said. "Having a big group racing at the same pace you are trying to run over the longer distances is ideal if you're trying to run an NCAA qualifying mark, top eight C-USA time, or just set a personal best. We have several student-athletes chasing NCAA qualifying marks and school records as well as top five all-time North Texas performances."

Also joining the distance runners in California will be senior Jazmine Martin and freshman Breanna Eckels. Martin will be participating in the triple jump on Friday at the Bryan Clay and Saturday at the Mt. SAC relays. Eckels will be competing in the long jump and 100-meter dash on Friday.

The rest of the track and field team will head to the Texas Invitational on Saturday, April 15. The meet will begin with men's discus at 10 a.m. and conclude with the men's 4x400-meter relay event at 3:30 p.m.

North Texas will only have two meets remaining to put up solid times and marks for the 2017 Conference USA Championships hosted by UTEP on May 11-13.
