DENTON, Texas - North Texas track and field sophomore Kedron Sowells was one of 16 students named a 2013-14 Conference USA Winter Spirit of Service honoree for his outstanding efforts on the track, in the classroom, and in the Denton community.

“Kedron is a great example of a student-athlete,” said assistant director of student services Christopher Evans. “He displays great leadership and strong work ethic on and off the track.”

A kinesiology major, Sowells is the vice president of the Student-Athlete Advisory Council. He has coordinated Rookie Round Up, National Student-Athlete Day and Salvation Army holiday collections for the Mean Green.

Outside of SAAC, Sowells created the Warmth for Heart Foundation and started the North Texas Winter Garment Drive, while volunteering for the Denton Independent School District.

Sowells and the North Texas track and field team will compete in the UTEP Invitational this Saturday in El Paso, Texas.
