DENTON, Texas (4/11/13) – The North Texas track & field team is celebrating multiple athletes earning Sun Belt Conference Athlete of the Week for the third time in 2013.
Junior Shahaf Bareni broke her school record high jump on Saturday with a leap of 1.82 meters or 5-11.50 feet on her way to capturing her second win of the outdoor season.
Bareni, who stands in first in the Sun Belt, moved into second in the South Central region behind Shanay Briscoe from the University of Texas.
This marks the second award for Bareni, who was named women’s indoor field athlete of the week for the week of Feb. 20, 2013.
Sophomore Chastity Stewart took home first in the women’s 100-meter hurdles in a time of 13.66 on Saturday at the North Texas Classic. Stewart turned around to run a personal-best time of 1:01.26 in the women’s 400-meter hurdles crossing the line second.
Stewart sits at second in both events on the SBC performance list.
