DENTON – The North Texas track & field teams will head to the 2017 Baylor Invitational on Saturday, April 8, at the Clyde Hart track and field stadium.
North Texas will be competing with 15 teams from Baylor, Abilene Christian, Arkansas, Central Michigan, Fresno State, Lamar, Northwestern State, Prairie View A&M, Oral Roberts, Tulsa, UT-Arlington and UT-Rio Grande Valley as well as women's athletes from Midwestern State, Nevada and New Mexico State.
The field events will start at 10 a.m. with the hammer throw and javelin. The running events won’t begin until 3 p.m. with the 3000-meter steeplechase and conclude with the 4x400-meter relay at 6:50 p.m.
Freshman Kristyn Archuleta will participate in the discus, hammer throw, and javelin. Archuleta set a school record last week at the Texas Relays in the javelin at 46.10 meters.
Senior Susie Kemper makes her outdoor debut in the 800-meter run. Freshman Tori Valka and sophomore Baylee Nelson will also compete in the 800m.
Five women’s pole vaulters will be competing, including freshman Bailey Ashmore who is fifth in Conference USA at 3.50 meters.
Senior Collin Heard will be competing in the 100-meter dash and hopes to improve his season best time of 10.87. Sophomore James Cole will run his first outdoor 200-meter dash along with teammate Derrick Samuels.
Junior Zach Kirkland, classmate Rick Nally, Freshman Tim Jones, and sophomore Kyle Maloney will take part in the 800-meter run.
Freshman Howard Grant competes in the long jump for the first time in outdoors. Junior Kevone Kennedy and freshman Karl Sralla will throw in the discus and hammer.
North Texas has five outdoor meets left to prepare for the 2017 Conference USA Championships hosted by UTEP in El Paso.
