Brooks Ties School Record In The Shot Put At Texas Relays

AUSTIN (4/5/03) - North Texas freshman Ciji Brooks tied the school record in shot put with a toss of 45-6.50 during the final day of competition at the Texas Relays. Brooks ties the previous school record held by Rachael Barr which was set back in 1987. The mark for Brooks is also the best toss by a North Texas freshman shot putter in school history. Brooks set a season and personal best in the shot, along with being the best toss in the Sun Belt Conference this outdoor season. 

North Texas had a standout performance from freshman Diedra Wesley in the high jump as she cleared a height of 5-5.

On the men's side the Mean Green 4X200 relay team composed of Derek Logan, Nathan Roberts, Trey Runnels, and Duckie Sherfield had the fifth fastest time in school history as they clocked in at 1:26.12.

In the field events pole vaulter Ryan Lancon had another solid performance as he cleared 15-11 while reining Sun Belt Conference Athlete of the Week Jerome Carrothers had his ninth toss of 50 feet or more in his career in the shot put at 52-5.25.

The Mean Green are back in action on April 19 at the TCU Invitational.
