AUSTIN (4/3/04)- North Texas junior high jumper Jarrod Stone capped off a memorable performance by qualifying for the NCAA Regional in the high jump and the long jump at the Texas Relays.
Stone qualified for the high jump with a mark of 6-10.75, a personal best and only a quarter of an inch shy of the school record. Stone then proceeded to qualify for the long jump at 24-1.50, another personal best.
"Jarrod came down here to compete and he did just that," said North Texas head coach Rick Watkins. "It's easy for some people to come here and just watch with some many great athletes here but Jarrod came in with the mindset of competing and he performed just great".
Stone becomes the first North Texas athlete of the season to qualify for the NCAA Regional meet which will be held on May 28-29. North Texas will return to competition at the Texas A&M Invitational on April 10.
