Mean Green to Compete at Baylor Invitational
The Mean Green Competes in Waco Against Top Teams
DENTON--The Mean Green track and field team competes Friday, April 3, in the Baylor Invitational.
"This will be the first competition that we are concerned with individual goals," said head coach Carl Sheffield. "Last week was more just testing the waters to get a feel of how training has been going over the last month."
At this past weekend's Texas Relays, North Texas encountered some of the Nation's top track and field teams, but was able to score some top-ten finishes. In the women's high jump, senior Shahaf Bareni placed fourth and junior Eddie Wilcox earned ninth in the men's competition.
North Texas DMR teams also had some success, with the women's team placing seventh and the men's team placing sixth.
"Texas Relays is always a great place to encounter top competition. Although it's pretty early in the year, it gives us a chance to see where we are after the indoor season," Sheffield said.
Sheffield says that most of the teams competing in Waco were also at the Texas Relays, so the team will "definitely have to bring their A-game."
"I think we'll find some redemption in some races and some of the field events, this weekend," Sheffield said. "The Texas Relays are such a carnival with all the different relay races. This week will be back to the basics. We will truly get a chance to see what we have been training for."
