- North Texas track claimed its third outdoor honor through only two weeks of outdoor competition on Tuesday when the Sun Belt Conference named junior Missy Barnes it's Women's Track Athlete of the Week.
The junior transfer from Oklahoma paced the Mean Green women to the UTA Bobby Lane Invitational team title Saturday in Arlington, Texas.
Barnes led the North Texas women who finished first, second and fourth in the 100 meter dash with a time of 11.77 seconds, good enough for first in the Sun Belt and eighth in the NCAA West Division.
She was also a member of the 4 x 100 relay that finished second at the UTA Bobby Lane Invite in 44.84 seconds which puts them in fourth in the NCAA West and tenth in the nation.
Barnes joins freshman Justin Anderson and junior Brittani Simmons on the list of North Texas athletes already honored by the Sun Belt this outdoor season.
She is the second member is the women's 4 x 100 meter relay team to be honored in as many weeks.
The Mean Green will return to the track this week in Austin, Texas against some of the best competition in the country at the 83rd annual Texas Relays.
