ARLINGTON, Texas (3/28/09) The North Texas track and field team took a cautious approach to the Bobby Lane Invitational on Saturday, pulling nearly all athletes from the sprints events due to high winds and in preparation for the Texas Relays which begin on Apr. 1.
However, the Mean Green did participate in a few field events and long distance competitions. Junior Longview, Texas native Garrett Sage posted the highest finish of the day by placing second in the 3,000-meter steeplechase in a time of 9:43.84.
Ingrid Mollenkompf had the best finish on the women’s side by placing fourth in the 5,000-meter run in a time of 18:14.25.
Senior Alana Tyler led the way in the field events with two top-10 finishes. The Dallas, Texas native placed fifth in the hammer throw with a distance of 50.28 and was seventh in the discus with a measure of 45.05.
North Texas will be back in action hoping for sunny skies Apr. 1 when they take part in the annual Texas Relays.
