Mean Green Track & Field Heads To Bobby Lane Invitational
DENTON, Texas - A week after an outstanding start to the 2010 outdoor track and field season, the Mean Green head back to the track for the Bobby Lane Invitational in Arlington, Texas.
North Texas ran well at the Horned Frog Invitational last Saturday, tallying three wins and 18 top-three finishes, and will be looking to build off of that performance.
"This is one of the longest running meets in this part of the country; it has always been a great early season meet, with teams coming from the North for warm weather, and teams coming from the South for the competition," said head coach Rick Watkins. "It will be a good test, a good measuring stick for where we are going into the heart of our season, which starts with the Texas Relays next week."
Two members of the Mean Green were selected by the Sun Belt Conference as Track Athletes of the Week for their performance last week.
Freshman Justin Anderson and Junior Brittani Simmons will be looking to beat their athlete of the week outings from the Horned Frog Invitational and move up the NCAA lists.
Sophomore Keyth Talley will be competing in first individual running events since he finished 13th in the nation in the 60-meter dash at the NCAA National Indoor Championships March 12.
Events will begin at 9 a.m. Saturday morning at Maverick Stadium. Other school in attendance will include: UTA, TCU, SMU, Oklahoma, Tulsa, Tarleton State, Iowa State, Wichita State, Stephen F. Austin, Texas State, Oral Roberts, Northwestern State and McNeese State.
