Ready for The Texas Relays
Track Heads to Austin Tomorrow to Compete Against Top Track Programs
DENTON--Thursday, March 26th, the North Texas track and field teams compete at the Texas Relays in Austin, Texas. This is one of the biggest outdoor competitions the Mean Green will compete in this season.
"The men's distance medley relay team should fare well," said head coach Carl Sheffield. "This will be the same quartet that finished second at the 2014 Indoor Conference USA Championships." The distance team had success as well at this year's indoor championships, placing third.
The men's distance team includes junior Troy Taylor, who earned his first C-USA track championship this February in the 3000M run. Sophomore Bryce McAndrew and senior Alex Hita have also had success in the 800M.
"Mona Landry will attempt a double in the 100m and long jump, while Eddie Wilcox and Shahaf Bareni should compete well in the high jump. The men's 4x100m relay will feature local talent in Kedron Sowells, Collin Heard, Caleb Pryor and Connor Bey," Sheffield said.
In Birmingham, Bareni scored a C-USA indoor high jump championship after sitting out last year due to injury, and transfer Eddie Wilcox placed third in his first C-USA Championship showing.
"Competing at the Teas Relays is a great way to kick off the outdoor season. It has become one of the premier relay-fashion competitions in the country," Sheffield said.
Sheffield also said that the Texas Relays gives the team a great opportunity to see the best high school track athletes competing.
"Teams from Oregon to Minnesota will be competing in our home state. It will be one of the largest groups of spectators to see a track & field meet over three days," Sheffield said.
The Mean Green competes Thursday, Friday and Saturday, March 26-28.
