North Texas Track & Field Heads To UTA Invitational

DENTON – The North Texas track & field teams will head to the UTA invitational on Saturday, March 25, held at Maverick stadium.
17 teams will be competing including, host UTA, Oklahoma, TCU, SMU, North Texas, Texas State, Little Rock, ULM, Northwestern State, Little Rock, Texas State, ULM, Dallas Baptist, Eastern New Mexico, Midwestern State, Texas A&M-Commerce, Texas A&M-Kingsville, Incarnate Word, Texas Wesleyan, Cowley and Wiley.
“This is another progression of our competition readiness,” head coach Carl Sheffield said. “We have had a few weeks off from competing and have gone to a back to basic training idea. We want to get our competition legs back firing. This weekend gives us a chance to challenge ourselves individually against outside competition.”
The meet will begin with women’s javelin at 9 a.m. and conclude with the men’s and women’s 4x400-meter relay at 6:55 p.m. North Texas will have competitors in hurdles, 400-meter dash, 800-meter run, and 1500-meter run for the first time in outdoors.
Freshman Kristyn Archuleta will compete in the discus and the javelin. Archuleta finished third in javelin at the TCU invitational last week. Freshman Karl Sralla and junior Kevone Kennedy will throw in the discus. Kennedy finished second in the discus at the TCU invite. last week. Sophomore Javier Lopez-Ibarra will look for his second-straight javelin title.
“We’ve had some great practices so far,” Sheffield said. “This will be a good weekend for individuals to place themselves on the outdoor performance list. The throwers are coming off a fantastic weekend in their quest to re-write the throwing record books.”
