Track Kicks Off Outdoors Season In Style In Fort Worth
FORT WORTH, Texas - North Texas Track and Field kicked off the outdoor season with a bang on Friday afternoon at the Horned Frog Invitational with several first place finishes and over 10 top three's.
FORT WORTH, Texas (3/19/10) - North Texas Track and Field kicked off the outdoor season with a bang on Friday afternoon at the Horned Frog Invitational with several first place finishes and over 10 top three's.
Justin Anderson led the way on the men's side for the Mean Green with two second place finishes. Anderson fell just .02 seconds short of taking the 100 meter dash with a time of 10.22 before running a 21.14 in the 200 meter dash.
The distance runners did well as Patrick Strong too home the first place finis in the 3000 meter run, Sara Dietz took second in the women's 800 meter run and freshman Matt Russ nabbed third in the 1500 meter.
The women's 4 x 100 meter relay of Missy Barnes, Brittany Blaylock, Brittani Simmons and Alysha Adams finished in 45.27 seconds which was fast enough for a first place finish.
Simmons and Blaylock took first and second earlier in the day in the 200 meter dash. Simmons completed the race in 23.82 with Blaylock right on her heels at 23.89 seconds.
The Horned Frog Invitational, originally scheduled to compete Saturday, was moved up to Friday afternoon due to the impending threat of bad weather.
The Mean Green will take to the track again next weekend in Arlington, Texas for the Arlington Invitational, scheduled to begin competition Saturday March 27.
