Outdoor Track & Field Season Begins At TCU Invitational
Two-Day Meet Starts On March 17
DENTON – The North Texas track & field teams will start its outdoor season at the TCU Invitational on March 17-18 held on TCU’s Lowdon track & field complex.
The meet will feature eight other schools in host TCU, Abilene Christian, Baylor, Northwestern State, SMU, Stephen F. Austin, Texas A&M Commerce and UTA.
“We have trained hard over the last three weeks after the indoor championships,” head coach Carl Sheffield said. “Our goal has been to improve our intensity through training. We want to be very competitive as team, and place well in our relay events, this weekend. We have been selective in who will participate in an individual event the first meet.”
Freshman Linnea Larsson-Huusko will participate in the women’s hammer throw on Friday, March 17, at 11 a.m. Freshman Karl Sralla and junior Kevone Kennedy will both compete in the men’s hammer throw. They will also take part in the men’s discus to complete the first day on Friday.
13 North Texas student-athletes will be competing in the first outdoor meet at TCU. Five pole vaulters will be looking to continue their strong start in the indoor season. Junior Kristen Adair, freshman Bailey Ashmore, sophomore Hannah Winn, classmate Blake Skoog, and freshman Jacob Franks.
Sophomore Nicole Auker will make her debut in the high jump and freshman Jaida Johnson will run for the first time in the 100-meter and 200-meter dash.
“We have a couple more weeks in this training cycle before we start our attack on the outdoor competition season,” Sheffield said. “We will use the first few meets to find out where people fit best in individual events. The April 1 meet at Baylor will be the beginning of our pursuit for a Conference USA championship.”
The Mean Green will stay in Texas for the first four meets of the outdoor season (TCU Invitational, UTA Invitational, Texas Relays, Baylor Invitational).
