Track Begins Outdoor Slate at TCU Invite

DENTON, Texas - North Texas track & field kicks-off the 2012 outdoor season on Friday with the TCU Invitational at the Lowden Track Complex in Ft. Worth, Texas.

The Mean Green women are coming off a heartbreaking second place finish at the Sun Belt Indoor Championships where they lost to Middle Tennessee by a one point margin, 108-107.

First year head coach Carl Sheffield was named the 2012 Women's Indoor Track and Field Coach of the year for his team's efforts.

Senior Sara Dietz, who set an SBC Championship record as well as an indoor school record in the 800, is looking for a couple of more school records and awards to add to her shelves during the outdoor season.

Friday's meet will mark the return of high jumper Haley Thompson.  Thompson has been out since the 2011 Texas Relays meet with an injury and will add to Mean Green attack in the women's high jump.  North Texas had Shahaf Bareni finish third indoors and Chelsea Hermes take fourth.

The men's discus will kick-off Friday's events at 10 a.m., with the first 4x100-meter relay of the season starting the running events at 1 p.m.
