FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (3/14/08) Lauren Wiggins capped off the 2008 indoor season Friday with a 14th place finish in the 60-meter hurdles at the NCAA Indoor Track Championships in Fayetteville, Ark.
Wiggins clocked in with a time of 8.38 during Friday’s prelims of the 60-meter hurdles; the fastest amongst any hurdler not from a major conference.
“She (Wiggins) might not have run her fastest race of the season, but she has a lot to be proud of,” said head track and field coach Rick Watkins. “She has continually elevated herself during the indoor season, posting provisional marks numerous times over the last month.”
Just this season, the junior from Carrollton, Texas, set indoor school records in both the 55 and 60-meter hurdles, as well as the 55-meter dash, earning all-conference honors in the hurdles and dash.
Wiggins and the rest of the North Texas track team will now turn its attention to the outdoor season set to begin next weekend with the Horned Frog Invite in Fort Worth.
“Lauren is already chomping at the bit to get out there and compete, but she’s going to need to take a couple of weeks to recover,” Watkins said. “As long as she continues to do what she’s been doing all season long, she’s going to be just fine.”
