2008 NCAA Performance List
DENTON, Texas (3/11/08) North Texas junior Lauren Wiggins has been selected to compete in the 2008 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships this weekend at the University of Arkansas.
Wiggins was officially added to the field late Monday after posting a provisional mark of 8.25 at the Tyson Invitational last month. Wiggins becomes the first ever Mean Green hurdler to earn a trip to the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships.
"This is a great accomplishment for Lauren," said head track and field coach Rick Watkins. "They only take a selected few from each event, so to even be considered is pretty impressive. Her goal is go down there and make the finals. She has run against most of these girls this year and beaten several of them, so I think that’s well within her reach."
Wiggins is just one of three hurdlers in the 16-person field that doesn’t come from a major conference. The junior from Carrollton, Texas, set indoor school records in both the 55 and 60-meter hurdles, as well as the 55-meter dash, earning all-conference honors in the hurdles and dash.
The preliminary round of the hurdles will begin Friday, March 14, at the Randall Tyson Track Center in Fayetteville, Ark.
