DENTON (3/07/06) Freshman track standout Brandi Stanfield is set to compete in the NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships this weekend in Fayetteville, Ark.
The triple jumper, who owns the nation’s ninth best leap of the season, punched her ticket with the winning jump at the Sun Belt Indoor Championships. Stanfield’s jump of 43-feet-5-inches earned her conference Women’s Field Performer of the Year as well as Freshman of the Year honors.
The Austin, Texas native, who has only participated in three collegiate meets, owns the North Texas and Sun Belt Conference records. Only one freshman in the country has bettered her this season, and she only trails the nation’s top mark by just over a foot and a half.
Stanfield is set to compete on Saturday at 4:10 p.m. at the Randal Tyson Indoor Track on the campus of the University of Arkansas. For more information on the NCAA Indoor Championships, click here. For live results, click here.
