North Texas Trio Caps Off Indoor Season

Complete Results From Arkansas Last Chance Qualifier

Fayetteville, Ark. (3/2/07) The Mean Green sent three athletes to Fayetteville on Friday with hopes of qualifying for the NCAA Indoor Championships; however, none of the three were able to improve on their season-best marks.

Sophomore Brandi Stanfield had already eclipsed the NCAA provisional qualifying mark twice in 2007, and did so a third time on Friday by breaking out a triple jump of 12.71 meters (41 feet, 8.5 inches).  Unfortunately that was not enough to improve on her 12.75 meter leap that she posted last week in winning the Sun Belt Conference title in Jonesboro, Ark.  Stanfield qualified for the national meet last season, finishing 11th as the only freshman in the field.

North Texas also sent a pair of high jumpers into competition in Fayettevile.  Senior Mark Lee and sophomore Toby Edwards each cleared an identical mark of 2.04 meters (6 feet, 8.25 inches), but fell short of the qualifying mark.  Just last week Edwards took the SBC indoor title with a leap of 2.11 meters (6 feet, 11 inches), clearing every mark on the first attempt before coming up short in his attempts at the provisional qualifying mark.

Lee capped off his indoor career after claiming the 2006 SBC indoor crown and opening up this season with a leap of 2.11 meters at the season’s first meet, the Texas Tech Invitational.

The Mean Green will be off until March 24th , when it kicks off the outdoor season in Fort Worth at the Horned Frog Invitational.
